Texas Instruments (TI) announced the industry ’s smallest 16-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that integrates a programmable gain amplifier (PGA), reference voltage, temperature sensor, and 4-port input multiplexer . The size of the ADS1118 is only 2 mm x 1.5 mm, which is more than 65% smaller than other similar 16-bit ADCs in the industry. In the temperature range of 0 degrees Celsius to 65 degrees Celsius, the ADS1118 can ensure uncalibrated errors of less than 0.5 degrees Celsius for direct linearization measurements, and its performance has increased by 75% compared with competitive solutions. In addition, it is the industry's lowest power 16-bit ADC, supports built-in internal reference, and can support data rates of up to 860 samples per second.
